Improve your English and review tenses!

Mar 08, 2012

Hi guys. So we’ve got to the end of the blogs on basic English tenses. We’re going to talk about the final tense and then review what we’ve done.

11. Conditional with would

Another very easy tense to form. The form is would + verb:

I would be happy if she came to the party.

I would love to go to Europe.

That’s it!! So, lets review the forms of the 11 basic tenses with the verb to eat:

Present simple- I eat

Present continuous- I am eating

Present perfect simple- I have eaten

Present perfect continuous- I have been eating

Past simple- I ate

Past continuous- I was eating

Past perfect simple- I had eaten

Past perfect continuous- I had been eating

Future with will- I will eat

Going to- I am going to eat

Conditional with would- I would eat

As I’ve said lots of times, this is only the form, not the use. You still need to learn how to use the tenses and practise them, but YOU CAN’T LEARN THE USE UNTIL YOU LEARN THE FORM.

Also, there are more complicated tenses that you will experience, but if you are an intermediate- advance student, you should learn these first.

In general:

All continuous tenses follow the form: be + present participle.

All perfect tenses follow the form: have + past participle.

All perfect continuous tenses follow the form: have + been + present participle.

See you next week!!

Good luck with your English!
